Ladakh Attracts More Tourists as 2026 Numbers Jump.

Ladakh is having a very busy tourism year. In just the first eight months of 2026, more than 4.05 lakh tourists visited the region. This is already higher than the 3.35 lakh tourists who visited during all of 2025.

The increase is being seen among both Indian and foreign visitors. From January to August, around 3.72 lakh domestic tourists travelled to Ladakh, while more than 33,000 foreign tourists visited the region. During the same period last year, the numbers were about 2.44 lakh domestic visitors and 25,000 foreign visitors.

August was particularly strong. Ladakh welcomed 74,753 visitors during the month, compared with 45,201 in August 2025. That is a rise of more than 65 per cent. Foreign visitor numbers also reached their highest monthly level of the year so far, with 10,075 international tourists visiting in August.

The numbers show that Ladakh is attracting people from outside India as well as from different parts of the country. Its mountains, landscapes, road trips and unique local culture continue to make it a popular destination.

For the local tourism industry, more visitors can mean more business for hotels, homestays, restaurants, tour operators, transport companies and local shops.

But the growing numbers also make responsible tourism important. As more people visit Ladakh, the region will need to manage tourism carefully so that its environment, local communities and fragile mountain areas are not put under too much pressure.

With four months of 2026 still remaining, Ladakh's final visitor count could move even higher.
