National Digital Tourism Stack: How ONDC Is Changing Travel in India?

India is taking another step towards making travel easier to discover and book online. The Ministry of Tourism has launched the National Digital Tourism Stack (NDTS) in collaboration with ONDC, creating shared digital infrastructure for India’s tourism sector.

The idea is simple: bring more tourism experiences onto digital networks so travellers can find, trust and book them more easily. The programme is being developed with support from the International Centre for DPI Innovation and Advancement (ICDIA) and will be rolled out in phases with states, Union Territories and the tourism industry.

The project is targeting 23,000 tourism experiences and homestays by the end of 2028. It is designed to help smaller tourism businesses and local experiences get more visibility instead of remaining difficult to find online.

Importantly, the Tourism Stack is not simply another travel-booking app. It is shared digital infrastructure that can connect tourism services with multiple participating apps and platforms. ONDC says its tourism network already includes 1,000+ experiences, 170+ ASI sites, 350+ events and 100+ walking tours.

The government has also talked about a “One ticket, One pass” vision, where different parts of a traveller’s journey could become easier to discover and access through connected digital services.

For travellers, this could mean easier discovery and booking. For hotels, homestays, guides, attractions and experience providers, it could mean greater online visibility and access to more customers.

The bigger goal is to bring more of India’s tourism offerings online and make travelling across the country simpler and more connected.
