Egypt Travel Guide: Pyramids, Beaches, MICE and Destination Weddings.

For Indian travellers, the country offers a mix of ancient history, beaches, diving, desert experiences, cultural attractions, business travel, MICE and destination weddings. In a Venue.Events conversation, Amar Ali, General Manager of EgyptAir, shared why Egypt can be an interesting destination for Indian travellers and event planners.

Where should you go in Egypt?

Cairo and Giza are the natural starting points. The Giza Pyramids and the Great Pyramid remain the biggest attractions for first-time visitors.

Beyond Cairo, travellers can explore Luxor and Aswan for ancient temples and monuments. For beaches and water activities, Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam offer diving, snorkelling and other sea experiences.

The country also has destinations such as Alexandria, Alamein, Marsa Matruh, Siwa and Saint Catherine, giving visitors very different experiences across one trip.

What is the best time to visit?

According to Ali, September through April is a particularly good period for Indian travellers.

Summer can be very hot in some parts of Egypt, although the North Coast, Alexandria and other coastal areas can still work well for a summer holiday.

Egypt for MICE and corporate events?

Egypt is also positioning itself as a destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

Cairo has major conference facilities, while hotels across destinations such as Sharm El Sheikh also offer large event spaces. Egypt has hosted major international gatherings, including COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, and has experience handling large international groups.

The interview also highlighted transportation, including rail services, metro systems and air-conditioned buses connecting major destinations. Golf is another growing travel segment, particularly in Sharm El Sheikh.

Can Indians have destination weddings in Egypt?

According to Ali, Egypt has strong potential for Indian weddings.

Hotels in places such as Sharm El Sheikh, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Alexandria can host wedding celebrations. He also discussed the possibility of holding special events and shoots at heritage locations, subject to permission from the relevant authorities.

This makes Egypt interesting not only for weddings, but also for fashion shows, cultural programmes, conferences and other special events.

What about Indian food and wedding arrangements?

Indian food is available in Egypt, and hotels can work with visiting chefs for specialised events. This can be particularly useful for Indian weddings and large celebrations where organisers want familiar menus for guests.

A destination with more than one reason to visit?

What makes Egypt interesting is the mix of experiences available in one country — history, beaches, adventure, religious tourism, wildlife and desert landscapes, along with large-scale events and weddings.

For Indian travellers, it can also work as more than a traditional holiday. Egypt has the potential to serve leisure tourists, wedding groups, corporate travellers and MICE planners at the same time.
