Delhi has been seeing a sharp rise in hotel demand as the city prepares to host the BRICS Leaders’ Summit on September 12 and 13. International delegations, government officials, business visitors and media teams have already started arriving in the capital.
The increase in demand has already affected hotel prices. Several luxury hotels in central Delhi had very limited availability, while some available rooms were being offered for ₹1 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh or more per night.
The pressure is not limited to central Delhi. Hotels in Aerocity, Gurugram and Noida have also seen higher demand as visitors look for rooms outside the main areas of the summit.
For Delhi's hospitality industry, the summit has created a major business opportunity. Luxury hotels have been preparing special menus, personalised services and Indian-themed experiences for international guests.
At the same time, the situation has highlighted the shortage of luxury hotel rooms in the capital. Delhi has considerably fewer branded hotel rooms than some other major international destinations, which means large global events can put heavy pressure on available accommodation.
With the summit beginning tomorrow, travellers looking for accommodation in Delhi and NCR may find fewer options and higher prices than usual.
Checking hotels in nearby NCR areas and comparing rates before booking could help travellers find better options.
